VERDITE - the green stone of Africa
A wonderful stone of rare quality, Verdite captures the mysterious and beautiful colours of an age old area of Africa. The rocks of Barberton in which the outcrops of Verdite occur have been identified as amongst the world’s oldest, dating back over 3500 million years. Like the eve- changing Sea, Verdite is infinite in it variety of shades of green and changing patterns. The only known deposits in the world are found in the Barberton district – an area where gold was first discovered in South Africa. Among the African People Verdite takes precedence in tradition not only as a basis for much of their ancient craftsmanship and folklore, but in powdered form it has been used by witchdoctors for hundreds of years as a mystical preparation for producing fertility. |
